Nestled in the heart of Mar Vista, this backyard renovation reimagines outdoor living for a modern family lifestyle. The design centers on creating a seamless and functional space for both everyday living and social gatherings. Careful attention was paid to site-specific elements like wind direction and sun exposure, leading to a reorientation of the built structures that enhances circulation and climate comfort throughout the day.

Flexible ADU

At the heart of the project is a thoughtfully designed ADU serving as a pool house, guest suite, and an office. A covered patio links the ADU and main residence, promoting indoor-outdoor flow and year-round usability.

Contemporary Feel

The ADU is designed with a contemporary aesthetic that echoes the existing home while establishing a fresh architectural language for backyard living. The design responds creatively to site constraints like a poorly placed garage, grading challenges, and easements that sets the stage for a multifunctional outdoor haven.
